London, 12 June 2017 – ICSA: The Governance Institute has announced that Baroness Barker, a member of the House of Lords’ Select Committee on Charities, will be providing the opening keynote address at its 2017 Charity Governance Conference. Taking place on 16 June at ICSA’s Farringdon offices in London, the conference has been specifically designed to provide delegates with an update on the proposals from the Select Committee report and the revised Charity Code of Governance.
‘Expectations on the charity sector remain high to deliver good governance, build trust and demonstrate a positive impact, as highlighted by the House of Lords’ Stronger charities for a stronger society report which puts governance at the core of strengthening the sector,’ says the conference chair Louise Thomson, Head of Policy (Not for Profit) at ICSA. ‘Our conference offers trustees, charity chairs and governance professionals working within the sector a 360° round-up of charity governance, technical updates and forecasts for the future to help them implement good behavioural governance alongside robust structures and processes.’
Other speakers at the conference include:
- Anna Smee, CEO of UK Youth and Winner of the Rising CEO Star award at the Charity Times Awards 2016 who will be providing the closing keynote address
- Rosie Chapman, Chair of the Charity Governance Code Steering Group and Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords’ Select Committee on Charities who will be offering insights into the Revised Charity Code of Governance
- Gerald Oppenheim, Head of Policy and Communications, Fundraising Regulator who will be providing a fundraising update
- Andrew Studd, a partner at Russell-Cooke Solicitors, will be focussing on how to change charitable objects and the importance of maintaining an exclusively charitable purpose in the context of the Law Commission’s soon-to-appear Charities Draft Bill
- Craig Beeston, Policy Officer at ICSA will be presenting ICSA’s recent report Cultural markers in the charitable sector to help delegates identify behaviours and practices that may indicate a poor organisational culture
- Neal Green, Strategy and Insight Manager, Charity Commission will be discussing board behaviour and seeing how the behaviour, culture and governance triangle can be used to develop a model of common trustee behaviours
- Dan Francis, Governance Consultant, NCVO will be providing a forecast for the year ahead highlighting what to expect in regulation and charity law.
