London, 2 June 2016 – ICSA: The Governance Institute’s annual conference in Scotland will address the political and regulatory challenges governance professionals working in Scotland will have to deal with over the next 12 months as they respond to a number of new regulations aimed at rooting out unethical business practices.
Taking place at The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on Thursday 16 June, the conference will focus on how businesses can create and sustain a culture of honesty and integrity. The following topics will be covered:
- Governance issues for investors: Scott Massie, Aberdeen Asset Management PLC will discuss what investors are looking for when they assess the standard of governance within investee companies. He will explore how companies can meet their increasingly high expectations
- People with Significant Control Register: Peter Swabey, Director of Policy and Research at ICSA: The Governance Institute will advise what information should be included in a company’s PSC register and examine the more complex details of the requirements that come into force on 30 June
- Regulation: Lindsay Wallace and Morag Moffett of Burness Paull LLP will look at the new rules that companies in Scotland will have to contend with this year, including proposed regulation to close the gender pay gap
- Supply chain transparency: Paul Marshall, Brodies LLP will examine the kind of assurances that big companies are looking for from SMEs as they try to meet their obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. He will offer advice on what a good antislavery and trafficking statement looks like
- Market Abuse Regulation: Viviane Joynes, Capita Asset Services will outline what companies should be considering prior to the new regime coming into force on 3 July
- Reflections on governance: Professor Paolo Quattrone, University of Edinburgh Business School will consider how the corporate governance landscape has changed and what the future might hold.
