Uganda, 4 June 2018 – ICSA: The Governance Institute, the leading qualifying and membership body for governance professionals in Uganda, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Associated Territories (UKRIAT), has recognised the outstanding contribution to good governance of Dr Patrick Bitature, Executive Chairman of Simba Group. The highest accolade conferred by the UKRIAT Division of the internationally renowned Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), the President’s Medal is awarded for distinguished or meritorious service in connection with the Institute.
Speaking after ICSA’s Graduation and Membership ceremony in London on 25 May at which Dr Bitature was awarded the silver and gilt medal by UKRIAT President John Heaton, Simon Osborne, chief executive of ICSA: The Governance Institute said:
“Dr Bitature has been a supporter of the Institute for many years and is a champion of good governance. Each company in the Simba Group has a sound management structure, financial independence and is overseen by properly functioning board. It is of great credit to Dr Bitature that all companies in the Simba Group adhere to the group’s core principles of integrity, innovation and adaptability.
“Besides being the founder and Executive Chairman of the Simba Group of companies, Dr Bitature is chairman of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda, an umbrella body for 175 private enterprises, and of Umeme Limited, the largest electricity distributor in Uganda. Additionally he holds a number of other appointments including as the Honorary Consul for Australia in Uganda.
“Dr Bitature’s support for ICSA in Uganda has been considerable. He has generously facilitated the provision of accommodation for the annual Directors and Secretaries Conference in Kampala which ICSA Uganda holds in collaboration with the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda. Most recently he has agreed to be the patron of a new mentoring scheme which has been launched by ICSA Uganda. I am delighted that Patrick has been awarded the President’s Medal. He is a truly worthy recipient.”
