The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) is pleased to announce that it has awarded honorary fellowship to The Right Hon The Lord Hunt of Wirral MBE, Sir Roger Carr and Sir Richard Olver. Sir Richard Olver is currently chairman of BAE Systems plc, a position he has held since 2004 and which he is due to relinquish to Sir Roger Carr on 1 February 2014. Prior to his role at BAE Systems, he was deputy group chief executive of BP after a career of more than thirty years at the company. A past non-executive director of Thomson Reuters and a member of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s Business Council for Britain, he is now a member of Prime Minister David Cameron’s Business Advisory Group, and also serves as a UK business ambassador and as a member of the India/UK CEO Forum. He sits on the International Advisory Board for the Atlantic Council, is a member of the Trilateral Commission, and is also an adviser to Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, and HSBC.  In addition, Sir Richard chairs the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Professional Engineering Committee, Education for Engineering Policy Group and its Development Advisory Board. Sir Richard, who was awarded the prestigious non-executive director of the year award in 2012, was knighted in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to business.

Simon Osborne, Chief Executive of ICSA, said: “I would like to welcome all of our new honorary members who, as well as being highly lauded in their professional lives, have also proved to be good friends to the Institute over the years. Lord Hunt has been integral to the development of our CCG code, chairing the panel that developed the code with alacrity, great professionalism and humour. He ensured that the group maintained focus on what we were aiming for and achieved it with an appropriate level of challenge and rigour. We look forward to continuing to work with him as the code is reviewed and improved in coming years.”

“Likewise, both Sir Roger and Sir Richard have supported ICSA over a number of years, individually chairing both the judging panel for the Transparency in Governance category of the ICSA Excellence in Governance Awards and the Institute’s Disclosure seminar. Sir Roger has also been a keynote speaker at ICSA’s Corporate Governance Conference. Their considerable business expertise and advocacy has proved invaluable to ICSA over the years, and I am delighted that we are able to recognise their contribution in this way,” continued Simon Osborne.
