ICSA Guernsey Conference 2015

Guernsey, 14 April 2015 – ICSA, the chartered membership and qualifying body for professionals working in governance, risk and compliance (GRC), is holding a half-day conference on 29 April about the issues faced by businesses as they struggle to keep up to date with the ever increasing demands of professional standards, global compliance and company regulation.

Tom Lancaster-King, Chair of ICSA’s Guernsey Branch says: “This year’s conference brings together industry experts, regulators and business advisors to shed some light on the issues facing GRC professionals in Guernsey. It is a must-attend event for all those needing to know more about global compliance and best practice in good governance.”

Research shows that company secretaries and other governance and compliance professionals add true value to an organisation when facilitating board decision making and demonstrating effective leadership. As a result, delegates are able to brush up on vital soft skills with a choice of workshops on situational intelligence or effective leadership.

Simon Osborne, ICSA Chief Executive, who will be speaking on the theme of ‘Governance versus commerciality’ adds: “The notion that corporate governance is an inherently ‘good’ thing is widely accepted these days, although some people feel that there is a conflict between the need for good, proportionate governance and the drive for business success. The two are not mutually exclusive and business can derive genuine value from good governance underpinned by sound values set by the board. Business can also gain by operating ethically and I look forward to hearing from our keynote speaker Peter Montagnon, Associate Director at the Institute of Business Ethics, on the subject of ‘Ethics in governance’. This promises to be a key area going forward as companies seek to rebuild some of the trust that has been lost since the financial crisis.”
