Belfast, 21 November 2014 – Lorraine Young, the President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) praised local branches and groups for promoting good corporate governance in their regions at the 80th ICSA Northern Ireland Branch annual dinner on 13 November.
The dinner, in the Ramada Plaza Hotel, was attended by representatives of other professional bodies, the banking sector and the public and private sectors. Representatives from the University of Ulster, which runs an MSc in Management and Corporate Governance in association with ICSA, were also in attendance.
As well as congratulating those in attendance for their efforts in promoting good corporate governance, prizes were also awarded for outstanding achievement in last year’s ICSA examinations to:
- Annette Leahy - The Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Prize for the Best Performance in Grad ICSA by an ICSA Registered Student
- Sinead Humphreys - Newtown Compton Memorial Cup (ICSA NI Branch Award) for Best Student in Company Secretaryship
- Ciara Culleton - Axiom Prize for Best Student in Corporate Governance
- Linda Galligan - Ulster Bank Shield for best Student in Management
- Andrew Cross - Ulster Bank Shield for the best student in Strategy
Speaking at dinner, Lorraine told members, graduates and students that:
‘The last year has been one of the most eventful in ICSA’s history. The start of the year saw the overhaul of the Institute’s Charter and Byelaws being overwhelmingly approved by members. This was followed by the launch of the new ICSA Brand “Trust through Governance”.
‘A new research project by ICSA and the Henley Business School has highlighted the role and value of the company secretary in the Boardroom’, she said.
Lorraine concluded by urging members and graduates to become involved in their local branch.
ICSA Branch Chairman Siobhan O'Neill confirmed how useful branch membership can be for personal development and commented that ‘Support from the business and academic sectors shows how much emphasis is placed on good governance. I am delighted that the role of company secretaries in Northern Ireland continues to be recognised for supporting good corporate governance.’
