London, 9 October 2018 – ICSA: The Governance Institute has launched a certificate in academy governance in order to support the professionalisation of the developing academies sector. It is the only qualification in the UK designed specifically with academies in mind and focuses exclusively on governance challenges faced by academy schools or multi-academy trusts (MATs).
“The academies sector is still relatively new and governance practices are not necessarily as firmly embedded as they might be. With the number of multi-academy trusts growing each year, the need for solid, consistent governance standards to be implemented across schools is becoming key. Our qualification has been designed to help meet the specific need for effective governance in academy schools and has a particular focus on the governance needs of MATs. It will provide students with the skills to develop sound governance practices and build awareness of good practice amongst members, trustees and local governors to help drive success,” says Louise Thomson, Head of Policy (Not for Profit) at ICSA.
The Level 4 qualification (set at first year undergraduate level) will help students to develop knowledge and understanding in the following key areas:
The course is suitable for anyone working in a governing management or administration (non-teaching) role in an academy or multi-academy trust. It is delivered in webinar and self-study format so can be studied anywhere in the UK at a time that is convenient to both the student and employer.
