Minister to discuss what Brexit means for Guernsey at ICSA conference

Guernsey, 29 March 2017 – Jonathan Le Tocq, External Affairs Minister for the States of Guernsey will be speaking at ICSA: The Governance Institute’s annual conference on the subject of Brexit and what it means for Guernsey. Participating in a panel discussion alongside Advocate Jon McLellan, Director of Legislative Drafting, Law Officers of the Crown, Guernsey and Dr Andy Sloan, Director of Financial Stability, Guernsey Financial Services Commission, the trio will discuss what the Brexit route map is looking like for Guernsey.

Taking place at the St Pierre Park Hotel Spa & Golf Resort on 26 April 2017, this year’s conference – the largest conference for Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) professionals on the island – tackles the theme of ‘Securing the Future’ and offers insights into how Guernsey businesses and other organisations can steady the ship in the face of heightened risk and uncertainty.

Delegates will benefit from expert input on topics including: leadership, minute taking, AGMs, cyber security, beneficial ownership, due diligence and personal development. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Dennis Tourish, Professor of Leadership and Organisation Studies, Royal Holloway, University of London, who will be speaking on the subject of dysfunctional leadership in organisations
  • Peter Swabey, Policy and Research Director, ICSA: The Governance Institute, who will be presenting ICSA’s new guidance about minute taking
  • Chris Hodge, Policy Consultant, ICSA and former Director of Corporate Governance at the Financial Reporting Council and Susan Swabey, Company Secretary, Smith and Nephew plc, who will be joining Peter to consider The Future of AGMs
  • Rob Shapland, Principal Cyber Security Consultant, First Base Technologies LLP, who will be running a practical workshop on cyber security
  • Alan Bougourd, Registrar, Guernsey Registry, who will be providing an update on the Beneficial Ownership Register
  • Tim Andrews, Director, Ipes, who will be looking at Client Due Diligence
  • David Press, Managing Director, DMJ Recruitment and Tony Jones, Senior Recruiter at Source Recruitment who will be looking at how GRC professionals can increase their value in the workplace.

“Political uncertainty in the UK and Europe is having a ripple down effect in terms of increased market instability. Add to this the increased pressure from more stringent financial services’ regulation, and it is little wonder that people are turning to good governance to help steady the ship. Our conference is the ideal forum for delegates to hone their governance skills and will provide them with the tools to approach the coming year with confidence,” says Sara Bourne, Chair of ICSA’s Guernsey Branch.
