Tim was previously the Chief Executive of Governance Institute of Australia. Tim brings to the task successful management skills, an education background and strong advocacy skills.
“With a strong presence in 65 countries, ICSA is uniquely placed to spearhead a global push to embed in developing economies sound governance practices in line with those in more mature economies such as Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom,” ICSA President Frank Bush commented.
“In a world rapidly transitioning to a global economy, we are confident ICSA’s long-standing, internationally developed qualifying program can be established as the aspirational benchmark for governance professionals worldwide. Along with ICSA’s international presence this will significantly raise the bar in developed and developing economies,” United Kingdom representative David Venus says.
“The creation of the Director General role is part of the strategy of the Council of the Institute to be able to demonstrate the importance of good governance and the value a qualified Chartered Secretary or governance professional can add to an organization,” said Jill Parratt, Southern African representative.
“The Institute is in a unique position to be a leading voice on governance with key international regulators and policy makers. The creation of the role of Director General will enable the Institute to pursue strategies to attract new members, become a leading commentator on good governance and grow membership in new territories,” Hong Kong/China representative Edith Shih said.
According to Tim, education and training go to the very core of good governance.
“ICSA has built up a reputation as the premier qualifying body for aspiring Chartered Secretaries and governance professionals. A focus on formal qualifications and training in governance that ICSA can bring will enable developing economies to build the trust, confidence and integrity required to successfully participate in a global marketplace,” Tim said.
The role of Director General is a part-time one and is a positive outcome from the restructure of the Council implemented in 2014. Tim will continue to be resident in Australia and will work with the Council appointed association management company to support the work of the Council and drive its strategic agenda.
