ICSA Excellence in Governance Awards 2014 – nominations open on 1 April 2014

London, 28 March 2014 – Nominations for ICSA’s Excellence in Governance Awards, which reward individuals, teams and organisations for upholding the highest standards in governance and disclosure, officially open on 1 April 2014, and this year there are even more categories to contend for.

The awards are open to everyone working in the company secretarial and governance fields in the UK and Ireland, and nominations are welcomed for the following categories:

• Company secretary of the year – listed company
• Company secretary of the year – unlisted company
• Company secretary of the year – not-for-profit
• Company secretarial team of the year – listed company
• Company secretarial team of the year – unlisted company
• Deputy company secretary of the year
• The one to watch
• Best annual report – small cap and AIM

As well as the awards listed above, there are 14 additional awards for which nominations are not required as they are decided upon by a panel of judges. These awards categories are as follows:

• Best annual report – FTSE 100
• Best annual report – FTSE 250
• Best annual report – unlisted
• Best audit and risk disclosure – FTSE 100
• Best audit and risk disclosure – FTSE 250
• Best board disclosure – FTSE 100
• Best board disclosure – FTSE 250
• Best remuneration report – FTSE 100
• Best remuneration report – FTSE 250
• Best strategic report – FTSE 100
• Best strategic report – FTSE 250
• Best sustainability and stakeholder disclosure – FTSE 100
• Best sustainability and stakeholder disclosure – FTSE 250
• Outstanding achievement award

The shortlist for the 13 awards categories relating to organisations is compiled after an assessment of governance disclosure in publicly available annual reports.  The final discretionary award, which is for outstanding achievement, recognises a single individual for exemplary work in the corporate governance field and will be announced at the ICSA Excellence in Governance 2014 awards ceremony. This year’s ceremony, the highlight of the governance calendar, is taking place at The Brewery in London on 12 November. 

Nominations close on Friday, 18 July 2014, with the shortlist of prospective winners due to be announced in September.
