1 May 2018 - The London Institute of Banking & Finance and ICSA: the Governance Institute today (1 May) announced that ProShare, the voice of the employee share ownership industry in the UK, is moving to ICSA.

Alex Fraser, CEO of The London Institute of Banking & Finance, said:

“ProShare does a really valuable job in representing employee share plan practitioners and promoting employee share ownership. We’re really proud to have been able to play our part in its work. However, increasingly, employee share ownership is part and parcel of the corporate governance agenda and there’s a real need to ensure employee voices are heard at Board level. ProShare and ICSA are a perfect match in terms of taking this work forward. The London Institute of Banking & Finance will continue to focus on its core mission – to promote lifelong learning in financial services, providing a wide range of qualifications.”

Simon Osborne, Chief Executive at ICSA: The Governance Institute, said:

“ICSA’s position as the membership and qualifying body for the wider governance audience creates opportunities for both ICSA and ProShare. There is an increasing recognition of the importance of the employee stakeholder and consequently of the role of responsible employee share ownership in good corporate governance. This means that we will be able to make use of shared strengths to provide an enhanced offering for all our members. We are delighted to welcome ProShare to the ICSA family and look forward to leveraging our joint lobbying reach to strengthen our voices in the governance debate.”

Gabbi Stopp, Head of Employee Share Ownership at ProShare, said:

“Many of ProShare’s members, especially in-house share plans practitioners, will already be familiar with ICSA as there is considerable crossover in our respective audiences and stakeholders. We are pleased to be joining ICSA at such a pivotal time for corporate governance in the UK as this will help us position the employee shareholder and their interests at the forefront of the debate. ProShare will continue to serve its members and act as the voice of the employee share plans industry in the UK.”

Key facts about the move

  • ProShare transferred to ICSA on 30 April. There will be a short transition period.
  • It will very much be ‘business as usual’ during the transition. ProShare will continue to operate independently for the benefit of its members and customers, as it does now.
  • For the longer term, the transfer has the potential to enhance membership offerings for ICSA and ProShare members, for example by offering reciprocal discounts on training and events.
