ProShare set to showcase the benefits of employee share ownership at London conference

DATE: TUESDAY 24 SEPTEMBER, 2019

ProShare’s 27th annual conference will highlight the latest technological developments and trends in the share plan industry and reaffirm the opportunities share ownership brings to employees

ProShare, the voice of the employee share ownership industry, has today released details of its annual conference in London, which will bring together over 400 leading share plans professionals to discuss the key topics that are shaping the UK domestic and global share plan industry. Taking place at etc.venues, 155 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 3YD on 3 October, the event is being sponsored by Barclays Global Stock & Rewards and will address the theme of ‘Bridging Divides’.

Gabbi Stopp, Head of Employee Share Ownership at ProShare, says:

“Employee share ownership (ESO) started life more than a hundred years ago as a means principally of bridging the divide between the owners of capital and the providers of labour. That ESO has evolved and endured to this day is testament to its power to align interests, and share success and wealth amongst those whose expertise and labour helped to create it.

“This is particularly important in an environment where cash has been eroded with near zero interest rates and higher inflation, and divisions and differences seem to be emphasised over similarities and common ground. Employee share plans provide a way for employees to convert their pay into an asset which may appreciate in value and earn dividend income. It is important, therefore, that those working within the share plans industry ensure that best practices are shared across teams, siloes, industries, geographies and ESO-related disciplines. This conference is an opportunity for share plans professionals to consider how we can foster the broader adoption of ESO as a uniting, inspiring force for good in our companies, our communities and the UK as a whole.”

This year’s conference will include a keynote speech from Jack Waley-Cohen, a well-known entrepreneur and co-founder of what3words, a geocoding system for the communication of locations globally. what3words also uses equity to remunerate its growing global workforce.

Other speakers will focus on topical issues, such as the importance of new technologies including robotic process automation; social responsibility; employee engagement; data visualisation tools and techniques; unconscious bias; corporate governance; remuneration practices; charitable giving; and inclusion and diversity.

Chris Mowatt, Director of Barclays Global Stock & Rewards, concludes:

“Barclays Global Stock & Reward Services are delighted to be sponsoring the ProShare Annual Conference for our second year. ProShare plays a vital role in representing the share plan industry in the UK and the conference provides a great opportunity for our community to come together and share current best practices and to discuss and develop ideas for the future.”
