The race is underway to find Guernsey’s top governance professionals

Guernsey, 27 August 2020 – Nominations are now open for this year’s ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute’s Guernsey Branch Annual Awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of Guernsey-based members and students of the Institute in the field of governance.

Taking place at The Duke of Richmond Hotel on Friday, 13 November 2020, the Awards are the focal point of the Guernsey Branch Annual Dinner, which this year has local celebrity and Coronavirus response expert Dr Nicola Brink, Guernsey's Director of Public Health, as guest speaker.

The Awards recognise the aptitude of Guernsey’s governance professionals in the following five categories:

  • Company Secretary of the Year
  • Governance Professional of the Year
  • Corporate Services Team of the Year
  • The One to Watch
  • The Student Excellence Award.

Nominations for the first four categories can be sent in via www.icsa.org.uk/guernsey/events. The Student Excellence Award is not open for nominations as it is based on exam results.

“Coronavirus has shone a spotlight on the need for preparedness, agility and cool headedness in the face of adversity, something that Dr Brink has doubtless needed to draw upon as she has led Guernsey’s public health response to the global pandemic. Praised for her expertise in virus control, honesty and soothing voice, I’m delighted that she will be speaking to our members and students at this year’s Annual Awards Dinner. They too have played a critical role in Guernsey’s response to the pandemic, providing vital support and advice to directors and senior managers and helping to steady the ship in a time of unprecedented crisis. Governance professionals make a substantial contribution to Guernsey’s economy, helping companies to succeed through good governance and effective decision making, and these Awards recognise the vital contribution that they make.

“I would also like to thank First Intuition for sponsoring our Student Excellence Award. Our students dedicate many hours of study to become the governance experts that Guernsey needs and it is wonderful to be able to recognise their efforts in this way,” says Paul Smith, Guernsey Branch Chair.

Tables for the event can be booked from Fiona Murray (events@fionamurray.net).
