After CoP 26, the formation of the International Sustainable Standards Board, and the UK’s push to embed the TCFD (Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures), Dr Andy Sloan, MD of climate risk consultants, Netherite & Grunweldt Advisory, explains what this all means for Directors and Boards of Channel Island finance sector firms particularly in the context of regulatory developments relating to sustainable finance announced by both the JFSC and GFSC earlier in 2021.

Dr Andy Sloan

Dr Andy Sloan is MD of Netherite and Grunweldt Advisory, which supports Guernsey and Jersey based firms, investors and issuers manage and mitigate their strategic climate risk and respond to climate related regulatory and disclosure requirements.

Dr Andy Sloan and is an expert reviewer on finance for the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment round. He established and led the development of Guernsey’s sustainable finance initiative, Guernsey Green Finance. He led the development of the GFSC’s Guernsey Green Fund rules and drafted the Green Principles for Private Equity and the ESG Framework for Insurers for the Guernsey International Insurance Association. He was Guernsey’s representative at the UN’s FC4S global network from 2018 to 2021 and was a member of its global steering committee. Dr Sloan was also a member of the CityUK Green Finance Group and was advisor to the UK Astana Sustainable Finance Initiative.

Dr Andy Sloan is also founder of the International Sustainability Institute Channel Islands. He has been Chief Economist at the States of Guernsey, Deputy CEO, at Guernsey Finance and was International Policy Advisor and Director of Financial Stability at the GFSC when TCFD (Task Force on Climate Change Related Disclosures) was published. Whilst at the GFSC, he was a member of the City UK’s International Regulatory Coherence Standing Committee, the BVCA Channel Islands Working Group, and a member of the technical committee of the International Organisation of Pensions Supervisors.
