11 October 2018

ICSA:The Governance Institute have just published their ‘Next Generation Governance report’ which outlines millennial perspectives on the future of governance.

The survey examined the impact of social issues such as demographic change, technical change and environmental sustainability on governance and was conducted within the past year among 400 Company secretaries and governance professionals.

The report highlights 2 main themes:

  • Respondents recognise that changing public expectations will impact the future development of governance; and,
  • Respondents are concerned about extensive regulation

Respondents also believed that organisations need to be more proactive about emerging social issues with 84% of millennials saying that technological change is highly likely to cause significant governance challenges in the future.

The report concludes by looking at the next steps and advising that 89% of all respondents agreed or strongly agreed with the statement  “I feel able to have a proactive impact on governance in my organisation”.
