Our second CPD event of the year was very kindly hosted by KPMG in their offices on Stephens Green Dublin. Despite the aftermath of the recent poor weather, a large attendance enjoyed the early morning briefing.

Linda Hickey, Head of Corporate Broking at Goodbody and board member of both Kingspan Group PLC and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, presented on the role and responsibilities of an effective audit committee. Linda also described how the key challenges facing audit committees were being responded to from a practical perspective viewed within framework of UK Governance Code. Linda shared her personal experiences under these headings with the delegates.

Aidan Horan, Director of the Training and Consultancy Division at the Institute of Public Administration, spoke about the sectoral and regulatory nature of audit committees in the public arena. Aidan also summarised what made for an effective audit committee and reviewed the disclosure requirements for audit committees.

Both presenters highlighted the important role of the secretary to the audit committee and they responsed to questions from those in attendance.

Thanks to all who attended and again to KPMG for sponsoring the event which was jointly run with the Institute of Public Administration.
