Companies House: The Changing role of the Registrar

This event took place on Tuesday 23 November 2020.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has recently provided its response to the 2019 consultation on reforming Companies House and the role of the Registrar of Companies.

The proposals represent the biggest shift to the company law framework, and to the role of the registrar, since 1844. Arguably, these reforms will move Companies House from “register” towards “regulator”, and provide a new role for the registrar as a key player in the fight against money laundering and economic crime.

In this session, Alex Walters, Head of Strategy & Policy at Companies House, looked at the changing role of the registrar of companies as a result of a number of significant legislative changes currently in development.
