James Johnston

James began his insurance career as a professional indemnity insurance broker. Whilst at Aon James moved to Aon’s Reinsurance and Wholesale D&O team. Following three years placing large D&O accounts at Marsh, James joined ACE European Insurance Company as a senior D&O underwriter in the Major Risks team in August 2011. He underwrote D&O, PTL and POSI programmes for FTSE clients and major European and Middle Eastern companies.

In July 2014 James joined QBE Insurance Europe Ltd as the number two to the portfolio manager. He underwrote D&O, POSI, Crime, PTL and EPL for large companies all around the world. James was actively engaged in winning new business, writing multinational accounts, drafting a new D&O wording plus working with the pricing actuaries on rating tools.

In March 2018 James started at Aviva Insurance Limited as Head of Management Liability to set up the team and write large corporate business. The team are writing D&O, POSI, Crime, and PTL lines of insurance. The team are writing both primary and excess layers business.

James has 17 years of experience in Management Liability.
