BBC

Nina is the BBC’s Creative Diversity Lead for 50:50 The Equality Project and News. She spearheads initiatives to support the Corporation’s aspiration that its on-air representation reflects society.

Nina heads the multi-award-winning 50:50 Project, which is the BBC’s biggest collective action on increasing women’s representation in BBC content there’s ever been. She has also overseen the expansion of 50:50’s methodology to disability and ethnicity.

More than 750 BBC teams across News, Sport, Factual and Entertainment are part of the voluntary initiative that uses a self-monitoring data system to effect change. Over 130 other organisations in 29 countries have also partnered with 50:50 from across the media, academia as well as the legal and corporate sectors.

In the 50:50 Impact Report 2021, 70% of BBC teams taking part reached 50% women representation, compared to 36% when they first joined the project. For the partners, half reached 50:50, compared to 31% when they began monitoring.

Nina is a journalist that has been featured in the Top 20 Global Diversity List as a Champion 2021 and Diversity Professional 2020. She returned to the BBC newsroom as a TV output editor and senior producer to support critical news services during the coronavirus pandemic. Nina has worked in media her whole professional career including at The Sunday Times and The Sunday Telegraph.

Nina’s work to create culture change through data-driven initiatives was recognised at the Women in Governance, Risk and Compliance Awards 2021, where she was short-listed for GRC Ambassador of the Year.
