Data Governance Lead

The Houses of Parliament Restoration and Renewal (R&R) Programme is set to be the UK’s biggest and most complex ever renovation programme. Indeed, significant work is needed to protect and preserve this fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site and ensure it can continue to serve as the home of the UK Parliament in the 21st Century. Accordingly, we’re looking for people with proven relevant expertise and a real desire to help shape our future - and improve our current capabilities - to take on this rewarding role.

Your challenge as Data Governance Lead will be to create a structure for data governance, embed best practice across the organisation and measure and enhance the performance of the IM team. Along the way, you’ll need to work with our Head of Data to define the roles of the Data Owner, Data Steward and Data user, ensure governance documents are up-to-date and aligned with Parliament and create a Data Steward community of Practice. Taking responsibility for work planning and delivery, functional reporting and provide training to Data Owners and Stewards in the business will be important too. And, when it comes to helping teams who need data to deliver analytics and data-driven decision making or supporting the Sponsor Body transition to Parliament, again, we’ll rely on you.

To succeed, you’ll need a good understanding of data management principles, including data governance, architecture and quality management. Experience of defining and executing data quality and applying the Data Protection Act 1988 is important too, as is the ability to identify data protection issues and risks affecting service users. Indeed, familiarity with business risks and the know how to define and implement the required process and controls to mitigate them is essential. Proficient using office IT, you can also bring excellent stakeholder and people management skills. And, if you have worked in a politically sensitive environment, even better, although this is not essential.
