Board Member x1 and Trustees x3 | Woodside Primary School

With over 650 children, Woodside Primary School is Shropshire’s largest provider of Primary Education.  We are looking to appoint three new Trustees and a new member to join our Board and support us on our journey to ‘Outstanding’. We are looking for people who can add value to our strategic decision-making and contribute to our organisational success.

About the role of the Board

At Woodside, we go beyond education; we believe that a school’s role is to not only educate, but to nurture, support, and safeguard. Our children are at the heart of what we do, and we strive to provide the best start in life for all at Woodside.

Our board ensure that we are delivering the highest quality of education and value for money and that the executive leadership team are held to account for delivering our strategic intent.

It is of principal importance that our governors (non-executive directors) understand and embody our passion for providing our children and their families with the best care and education. We are looking for four skilled individuals with a strategic vision to take us on the next stage of our journey. Ideally, applicants will have career experience in finance, risk and audit, or education leadership to offer new perspectives on how we achieve our goals.

Our trustees and members are required to read, understand and offer your voice to our strategic proposals, goals, and overcoming challenges. You must be prepared to understand the landscape that we operate in and how we move forwards within it.

Trustee
Time commitment: 6-8 meetings / year

Our trustees contribute to our forward movement in a practical and tangible way. You will be responsible for our formal processes and procedures and to ratify decisions. In addition to meetings, you will be invited to other key events. You will also be required to read, understand and offer your voice to our strategic proposals, goals, and to how we overcome any challenges. You must be prepared to understand the landscape that we operate in and how we move forwards within it.

Member
Time commitment: 2-4 meetings / year

Our board members act as a ‘critical friend’ to our Trustees. Candidates applying to a member’s role will need to be prepared to commit to 1 AGM, 1 Members Committee meeting and be ready to meet at other occasions where your attendance is deemed necessary.

Who we are looking for
We are open to the backgrounds of individuals, and would welcome someone with experience in:

  • Finance
  • Risk and Audit
  • Education leadership, particularly with a background in school or academy trust, local authority, or educational charity leadership experience
  • Strategy development

Woodside is actively encouraging applications from under-represented groups and from candidates based outside of Shropshire. As we build our organisation, we understand the value of drawing on expertise from outside our locality to help us continue delivering the best quality for all the children in Woodside school.
