Trustees x3 | Elizabeth Casson Trust

The Elizabeth Casson Trust was established in 1948 to further the profession of occupational therapy, and support the development of occupational therapists within the UK and beyond. We have developed as an organisation through the years, but have always worked to stay true to the pioneering spirit of Dr Elizabeth Casson.

The Trust supports the development and translation of research into practice, and the acquisition of knowledge and skills by occupational therapists. We achieve this through the awarding of grants. We also commission specific projects through our innovation awards, to respond to current and emerging needs. In addition, we host a successful mentoring programme for occupational therapists, a personal leadership programme, and a Focus on Fairness Observatory. We stay connected to our profession, professionals and people who use our services to ensure the relevance and sustainability of the Trust. More information about our support can be found here.

As we continue to deliver our current strategic plan 2020-2025, we are looking for people to join our Board who are committed and passionate about our work, and the important role occupational therapy has in health and wellbeing. Our strategy includes working in partnership across all organisations where occupational therapists have a presence; providing support and development in the most accessible way, and ensuring equality and diversity run through from the Board to funding awards to our future focus.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking three new Trustees, in particular two who are Occupational Therapists. To ensure our Board broadly represents the profession, we have a particular interest in recruiting OTs who have experience in community settings, a strong understanding of commissioning, or experience in Public Health. Although, we welcome interest from any OT who is committed to our values and purpose. For the third Trustee, we are looking for an individual with commercial experience and an understanding of investments. This person does not have to be an Occupational Therapist or have an understanding of the sector.

We are committed to ensuring the diversity of our Board, so we expressly encourage applications from a wide range of applicants, including individuals who will approach discussions through a different lens and bring a range of life experiences.

This includes the categories protected by UK law (age, disability, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation), as well as socio-economic background and ways of thinking. We welcome people who have never held Trustee roles to apply.

The Board meets four times a year, and the time commitment is half to one day per month, to include meeting preparation, representation at external events and participation in a Trust project. As a Board, we plan to meet in a hybrid way, with 2-3 board meetings a year virtually, and 1-2 in person. Although Oxford is our registered address, we do not have an office and are a virtual organisation and we plan our face-to-face meetings in different locations in the UK which are convenient for Trustees.

Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 19th September 2022
