Trustees x 2 (Legal, Marketing & Communications) | Royal Medical Benevolent Fund

The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund (RMBF) was founded as the Medical Benevolent Fund in 1836. The medical world has changed enormously since the RMBF was first established, and, as the medical profession has changed, so has the RMBF.

The RMBF supports doctors and medical students at all stages of their career and beyond. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the major impact it has had on the medical profession, the RMBF’s services have never been more necessary. Our help ranges from financial assistance in the form of grants and loans, to wellbeing and psychotherapeutic support.

The RMBF is committed to leading the way in providing help to members of the medical profession and their dependants at times of crisis and serious need. Between 2020-2021, 270 beneficiaries received financial help with a total of over £420,000 paid out in grants. Our online advice hubs and wellbeing support service had over 130,000 views.

The RMBF has a long-standing history of providing help and support to doctors and medical students. We are looking to build on our success and raise the profile and awareness of the charity. With this in mind, we are looking for two new Trustees to join the board.

Specifically, we are looking for people who bring expertise in legal, marketing and communications, social media and public relations. An interest in and respect for the mission and values of the RMBF is critical. We are looking to ensure our board represents the diversity of the profession we support and our society. We encourage people from diverse and different backgrounds to get in touch. We also encourage first time Trustees to apply as we offer training, mentoring and provide an encouraging and open board culture.

The board meets four times a year in Central London, often in the late afternoon. Videoconferencing facilities are available as needed. We have five sub committees: Finance, Compliance, Staffing, Nominations and our Grants and Awards Committee. We also host an annual strategy away day as well as a larger annual general meeting, and a dedicated volunteers’ day. We expect the time commitment to be up to a day a month and this is inclusive of preparation for meetings, reading board papers, communication with staff and Trustees and attendance at events.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the RMBF, as we look to create a new strategy and evolve our essential work. This is a time for the charity to have an even greater impact and to protect and support the needs of doctors and medical students who work tirelessly to help and support everyone in our society.

Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 5th September 2022
