Trustee | Newcastle Carers

Anyone can become a carer, at any point in their life. This can happen unexpectedly and at a moment’s notice.  Newcastle Carers provide a range of practical services and holistic support to those looking after someone.

We believe every carer should be able to access professional support, information and guidance.

With over 6,000 carers registered with us, Newcastle Carers is a vital and trusted source of advice, information and support for carers across the city. Since registering as an independent charity in 2012 we have grown and developed significantly.

We pride ourselves on our holistic and personal approach.

Some of our carers are as young as 5 years old, where we might work to remove their caring responsibilities and enable them to be children again.  For others, it might be about providing advice on financial support or providing wellbeing services to help provide some respite for carers.

We have developed partnerships with schools, colleges, universities, Job Centre Plus, GP practices, Social Care, employers and many voluntary sector organisations to increase awareness, promote good practice and encourage referrals. This is at the heart of everything we do.

We work with carers by providing a space to talk and be heard, helping carers to make well-informed choices to move forward.

Whilst we are proud of our achievements, we believe that we are only scratching the surface in terms of engaging with the needs of carers locally.

Our primary goal is to be able to increase the number of carers we can provide support to as this provides such a tangible difference to the lives of both the carer and those they care for.

Specifically, over the course of our next strategy, we would like to grow our reach with young people, refugees, and people from the travelling community, and expand our services into local community hubs.

As a Trustee, you will be joining a successful Charity with a high-performing board that has recently recruited a new CEO and is now looking to grow its capacity and services.

We would benefit from people with expertise in working with young people, fundraising/income generation or commission, experience working with the local authorities / NHS and Social Care, PR and marketing.

We currently have some board members with lived experience of being carers. We actively welcome more people with lived experience, or those who are being cared for, to consider this opportunity.  Perspectives on fundraising, income streams, social care and commissioning are particularly important to us.

We encourage people who have never held Trustee roles, or even considered them before, to apply.

Our advising consultants at Peridot Partners would be delighted to discuss the role with you further.

Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 22nd August 2022
