This position would be the principal adviser to the Board of Directors on discharging its legal duties, compliance with applicable regulations such as the NHS Constitution, FT Constitution and other controls. Within a fantastic trust, this position is essential to trust.

The role:

  • Facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the Trust’s formal decision-making and reporting processes
  • Act as the senior adviser to the Trust Board, Council of Governors,
  • Lead on the design, development and implementation of the Board Assurance Framework
  • Ensure the Trust has a fully effective risk management strategy
  • Play a full part in the Trust’s leadership team by collegiate and active contribution to strategy and operational delivery
  • Manage the Trust’s year-end reporting requirements
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders
  • Facilitate development programmes for the Board of Directors
  • Act as adviser to the subsidiary Boards on corporate governance and legal matters
  • Ensure the Council of Governors is adequately developed and supported to enable it to discharge its duties effectively
  • Manage the FT membership activity of the Trust

Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of NHS corporate governance framework
  • Associate or Fellow membership of the Chartered Governance Institute
  • Significant experience as company secretary in large complex organisations
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Demonstrable advanced in-depth and broad knowledge of corporate legislation and governance agenda
