Governance & Risk Manager

Role Purpose:

The Governance Team includes the Chief Executive’s Office, the Board Secretariat, and the Governance function. Our role is to support NRW’s management in the efficient running of the organisation and to ensure effective decision-making. 

In this new role as Governance & Risk Manager you will lead a team of three people in the implementation of a range of projects within the Governance Change Programme aimed at improving organisational-wide governance and assurance. You will promote and facilitate effective and efficient organisational governance in line with good practice, legal and regulatory requirements, and environmental and ethical responsibilities.  
We are looking for someone with a professional governance qualification (e.g. Chartered Governance qualification, risk management qualification, Chartered Accountant or Lawyer) and significant experience working with Boards and senior management teams in a corporate governance and/or risk role (ideally managing a governance and risk framework in a large public sector organisation).

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Chartered Governance qualification, risk management qualification, Chartered Accountant or Lawyer) and significant experience working with Boards and senior management teams in a corporate governance and/or risk role (ideally managing a governance and risk framework in a large public sector organisation).
  2. Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a diverse range of audiences using a high standard of written and oral communication skills and able to use influence and persuasion to shape outcomes and gain support – both internally and externally.
  3. Ability to provide motivational leadership through empowering and enabling others within a changing environment and dealing with uncertainty.
  4. Ability to prioritise deliverables within your work area having a performance mind-set and a proactive can-do attitude.
  5. Ability to exercise good judgment and decision making, with a demonstrable track record of success.
