Democratic Governance Senior Adviser

Blackpool Council’s Democratic Governance team is offering a unique opportunity for an individual who wants to work flexibly and with a varied and interesting workload. The team provides governance support to a wide range of bodies including the Boards of wholly owned companies, formal Council committees and School Admission Appeals Panels.

We will provide support and access to training and development to continue to develop your skills. With a move to hybrid meetings and innovative methods of service delivery as well as an expansion in the company secretary role of the team, it promises to be an exciting time for you to join us and develop your career.  In view of these changes, we are looking for someone who has a willingness to adapt to new working methods and shows a flexible attitude to service improvement and change.

We want you if you are a positive and proactive team player with excellent interpersonal skills and can display confidence in a wide range of situations, including in a political and commercial context.   We are looking for someone who knows what good governance means and can apply those principles in all areas of work.

You will be expected to have good knowledge of local government decision making processes in order to provide professional advice to members and officers and will be responsible for ensuring high standards of corporate governance.  You will need to have a sound level of experience of working with elected members and supporting Council committees and be able to establish good working relationships with senior leaders and partners.  You will also need to be highly organised and able to work to tight deadlines.

It is anticipated that the role will be based partly in the modern office suite in Blackpool and partly working from home.  Please note this is a politically restricted post and you will be required to attend evening meetings.

The closing date for applications is Friday 13 August 2021
