Secretary / Charity Trustee

The Solihull Manor House Charity is looking to appoint a Secretary / Administrator who will also become a Charity Trustee.

This is a voluntary position which would suit someone with good organisation and administration skills, experience of Charity requirements would be useful but not essential. Hours are flexible and at your discretion, but you would be expected to attend full Trustee meetings.

The Solihull Manor House (www.solihullmanorhouse.org) is a Grade 2* listed timber framed house built around 1495 . It stands in the centre of Solihull and is open to the public 6 days a week.

The Charity exists to preserve the building and its garden as a building of historic and natural beauty for the benefit and enjoyment of the community.

Income is generated by renting out rooms to local businesses including a Tea Room, small shops and offices, and for education purposes. A warden is on site during opening hours.

The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation whose only voting members are its Charity Trustees of which there are currently six. There is a full trustees meeting every other month, and specific management meetings when required.

Overall Responsibilities

  • To provide governance and administrative support , enabling the Charity to be effective in achieving its goals
  • Record the ongoing operation of the Charity including scheduling meetings, important deadlines, and taking minutes
  • Become the Charity’s contact with the Charities Commission , ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Ensure a proper system of retaining records is established and that all Trustees are aware of it
  • Be able to work as part of a small team committed to the preservation of a heritage building and garden
