This is an opportunity to lead the board of a growing and innovative organisation striving to support more older people across the borough of Kensington & Chelsea in different and new ways.

Age UK Kensington & Chelsea (£2.9 million) an independent community-based charity working in the heart of Kensington & Chelsea to ensure that older people’s voices are heard, their needs are met, and their independence is supported.

As the UK was affected by the global pandemic, we were extremely concerned about the impact on older people and so we were ready to deliver our response from the first day of lockdown and it meant we were able to support over 1000 isolated older people across Kensington and Chelsea every week for over four months.

More people are living longer lives and as an organisation we need to be fit for the years to come and ready to deliver the services our older people tell us they need. We are developing innovative new offers such as our upcoming pilot to deliver an evidence-based long-term supportive intervention for people living with Dementia and exploring how exciting developments in technology can best support people as they age.

It is an exciting time to join and lead our board as next year we will begin to create a new three-year strategy.

We appointed a number of new trustees to the board during the pandemic with skills in fundraising, communications, marketing and leadership and as our Chair Martin Pendry reaches the end of his term in the new year, we are looking to appoint a new Chair.

We are looking for a person who can champion our organisation, be our ambassador and who is strategic, innovative, and can support our board and team through our next strategic phase.

We are a values driven charity and older people are at the heart of everything we do in our community, we are looking for someone who is committed and dedicated to supporting older people.

We are looking for a Chair who is a leader and passionate about our borough and the impact our charity achieves every day.

The board meets four times a year in the evening for 2 hours and we have 2 main sub-committees, Finance and Risk committee and our Quality, Performance & Development and Human Resources committee which meet quarterly. We also meet once a year for a strategy away day and other ad hoc events throughout the year. We expect the time commitment for Chair to be about 2-3 days per month.

Closing date: Monday 24th January 2022.
