Newly created Assistant Secretary roles

Our client has recently undergone a restructuring of its company secretarial team (11 people in total) and has three newly created Assistant Company Secretary roles to offer on a permanent basis in London. This is a unique opportunity to come into a newly formed team and help grow and shape the function going forward.

The main purpose of all these roles is to provide a proactive, end to end company secretarial service to both regulated and non-regulated entities. The three roles are designed to offer subtle variations as well as those specific duties though, and the broad plan is as follows - so which role people will be best suited to will be discussed throughout the process;

  1. The work in this Assistant role will be 80% involved in supporting the main entity This role will require gravitas, it will suit someone who has previous experience of senior manager/Board stakeholders and experience ideally gained in another insurer or asset management company. You will run your own committees, and deputise for the Deputy Company Secretary as required on Board Meetings/Sub committees. You will also be fully involved in the Annual Report/AGM.
  2. Subsidiary management Assistant, you will deputise for the Head of Subsidiary Governance, directly supporting the main subsidiaries, attending/supporting exec committee meetings. Working as part of the team handling all the subsidiary governance, statutory work, transactional core work. You will also be expected to actively mentor and help manage a trainee company secretary.
  3. Subsidiary management Assistant Secretary, working again in the subsidiary governance team with duties as per above role but also with a specific responsibility for technical side projects. You will be a key person involved in the implementation of new technology – in particular specialist company secretarial softwares. The new Deputy is very excited and motivated to bring new technologies to the department, and keep that aspect continually up to date and is looking for someone to support her in this endeavour.

In common for all roles will be the need to be experienced, ideally already ICSA qualified with a good few years of experience preferably gained in a regulated environment. The salary will be competitive and will be dependant on the level of experience the chosen candidate brings to the role, as there can be some flexibility on levels. The legal/cosec team is based in London EC3. There will be flexible working available if required, most people at this level are aiming for a minimum of 2/3 days in the office – with Monday being a core day where everyone comes in to get together.
