Examining the cyber attack on Talk Talk

The huge cyber attack on Talk Talk and theft of nearly 157,000 customers’ data has raised questions about how much knowledge of their security vulnerability had filtered up to the board. Did the CEO know there was potential weakness – and fail to act – or had the risk simply been downplayed in board-level reports? There are accusations of fundamental failings in risk assessment and management, however, the company might have been simply gambling on not being breached.
