The BEIS consultation ‘Restoring trust in audit and corporate governance’ has the potential to bring enormous change to the practice and expectations of corporate governance in the UK. We are delighted to be joined by Miranda Craig FCG, Director of Strategy and Change, from the Financial Reporting Council to explore some of the issues and questions raised by the consultation, focussing on those issues likely to be of most relevance to governance professionals working in public practice and company secretaries of smaller listed companies.
Among the topics under discussion will be the extension of the PIE (Public Interest Entity) definition, the adoption of Sarbanes-Oxley type regulations on financial controls and reporting which could affect the legal responsibilities of directors, and the implementation of an audit and assurance policy with the proposal to consult with shareholders. The consultation covers a wide range of related topics, so the event is likely to concentrate on those with impact on the smaller companies sector.
You can read this article from G&C for more information about the consultation and the topics covered in it.
