CGIUKI student status
While you are registered as an CGIUKI student, you can use the term ‘CGIUKI student’ to describe your status. However, you are not a member of CGIUKI and you cannot describe yourself as a Chartered Secretary or as a Chartered Governance Professional.

As a CGIUKI student, however, we expect that your professional ethics and conduct will be equal to that of a CGIUKI member while you are studying. As such, when you agree to the CGIUKI student rules and regulations, you agree to abide by the:
Registering on the course
Although you can register at any time, you should contact CGIUKI to check when the next course is scheduled – courses are run once a year, usually starting in September / October. You need to complete the CGIUKI registration process and pay the full course fee in order to register.
After you register, you can only cancel within 14 days of your registration. After this period, and particularly after the first webinar session of the course, no cancellations are allowed, and administrative charges may apply for any changes made.
You are responsible for accessing the webinar sessions or recordings and letting CGIUKI know if you have any problems. We will email you before the first session with details of how to test the system and how to access the webinars. You need to read the emails carefully and carry out a test.
Entering for exams
The examinations for CGIUKI Certificate programmes are only set once a year, in June. When you register on the course, you will be entered to take the examination in the session immediately following the course, in June. If you are unable to sit the examination at that time you need to contact us as soon as you know and we will let you know how the booking can be changed.
If you fail the exam at your first attempt, you have three opportunities to re-sit. You need to pay a separate re-sit fee, as this is not covered in your course registration fee.
If you need to re-sit the exam, try not to delay this too long. You will need to successfully pass the exam within four years of completing the webinar course.
If you do not attend an exam and do not seek a postponement in advance, this will count as one of the four attempts at the exam which you are allowed. If there is a reason why you can’t attend, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know. Usually we will only change an examination date without charge in circumstances such as serious illness or bereavement.
