Emotional Intelligence for Governance Professionals Masterclass


Overview

Our masterclasses have been aligned to the Competency Framework for Governance Professionals to help governance professionals to develop confidence and practical skills to apply the fundamental principles of good governance.

This face-to-face course builds on our current research and insights – recognising emotional intelligence as a fundamental skill for governance professionals.

Individuals will gain an understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence and gain insights into key concepts and principles that underpin its application to good governance practice.

The course covers a range of reflective and practical exercises that enable participants to explore:

  • The emotional intelligence business case
  • Concept of psychological safety and how this can be created
  • Develop skills and strategies for managing uncertainty
  • Concept of ‘Our Worldview’

Develop and apply the practice of emotional intelligence in the areas of:

  • Personal and social competence
  • Managing conflict
  • Recognising and effectively operating within power bases

Other practical elements of the course will cover the application of principles associated with key models and theories related to:

The trust equation (model) and the art and skill of listening.

Learning outcomes

By completing this session, you will be able to apply the principles and practice of emotional intelligence to:

  1. Apply alternative responses to reflect environments and situations.
  2. Conceptualise how we might see the world differently to others and how these biases and pre-conceptions can be used to adapt (and adapt to) situations and environments to limit their impact.
  3. Show empathy, sensitivity and perceptiveness in a professional environment.
  4. To effectively build relationships with others.
