Hanneke will be sharing her thoughts on the outlook for the asset management industry in 2020, and the headwinds the industry is currently facing. She will offer insights into how Newton manages the challenges presented by environmental and social governance (ESG), how and why this has been a core issue for the company since its establishment, and how Newton’s approach differs from elsewhere in the asset management industry. Hannah will also share some personal thoughts from her illustrious career.

The discussions will be guided by Peter Swabey FCG, Policy and Research Director at The Chartered Governance Institute.

Speaker

Hanneke Smits joined Newton, the largest of BNY Mellon’s eight asset management boutiques, as CEO in 2016. A board member of Newton Investment Management Limited (NIM) and Newton Investment Management (North America) Limited (NIMNA), Hanneke is also a board member of The Investment Association, the trade body that represents UK investment managers.  She previously served as a member of the Executive Committee at private equity firm Adams Street Partners from 2001 to 2014 and was its Chief Investment Officer from 2008 to 2014. Hanneke is a non-executive member of the Court of Directors of the Bank of England and also serves as Chair of the Board of Impetus, a venture philanthropy organization that backs charities dedicated to transforming the lives of disadvantaged young people.
