We want a Governance Officer to:

  • Create accurate documentation (fanatically so) which is delivered on time, to the highest standards reflecting exceptional organisation skills.
  • Deliver outstanding stakeholder engagement and understand the complex interrelatedness of the Board and its relevant committees all on an ongoing daily basis.
  • Be diligent about compliance and risk.
  • Speak up, to be responsible and to take ownership by adopting daily, weekly, monthly programmes which adhere to the annual governance plan utilising and embracing technology to improve processes.

This role will provide excellent service to the Executive, the Board and its supporting committees. This role will allow the successful candidate to learn about how governance works in a multi-faceted organisation while providing a real contribution to the corporate governance of the IWFM. The role will support the Executive team on a variety of governance matters while undertaking formal apprenticeship learning through our chosen provider.

The apprenticeship programme will provide you with a fully funded professional qualification (Governance Officer, level 4) and an opportunity to develop a range of skills. This is a 2 year fixed term contract to support this apprenticeship.

Key Accountabilities  

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with drafting key corporate documentation such as Board resolutions, meeting notices, annual general meeting papers
  • Assist with the organising and management of Board and Board committee meetings whether face to face or virtual or hybrid
  • Ensure all papers are produced in a timely manner to the highest standards and made available to all attendees
  • Minute-writing at Board and Board Committee meetings and follow up on actions
  • Collaborate with colleagues by participating in the transformation team, which is a cross-functional group, identifying matters which impact corporate governance
  • Assist with collating corporate information
  • Assist with corporate statutory filings in the UK
  • Maintain and update records to ensure filing deadlines are met

  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to prioritise workload and to manage and meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Adopt a flexible approach to working which suits the business needs (e.g., in cross-functional teams, independent working)
  • Absolute integrity and discretion when handling confidential information
  • Technology skills across various packages including Microsoft 365

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of Diligent Risk platform or other governance platforms
  • Excellent numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills


What we look for - Eligibility, background, skills, aptitude

  • You must have achieved Level 2 in English and Maths (equivalent to GCSE grade 9-4/A*-C)
  • To comply with the apprenticeship eligibility rules, at the start of the apprenticeship you must be aged 18 or over, living in England, and not in full time education and have the right to work in the UK.
  • A strong commitment towards successfully completing the Level 4 Governance Officer Apprenticeship (minimum 18 months – 24 months on programme).
  • Willingness to learn and to take on new responsibilities and tasks.
  • The personality and flexibility to operate successfully in a remote working  environment but with the need to travel to attend meetings on an ad hoc basis.
