Salary: Unpaid voluntary – Expenses (food & travel) reimbursed.
Hours: 3-4 hours per month
Location: Remote with 2-3 in-person meetings throughout the year in Greenwich or Bexley.

PURPOSE:

The Board Secretary will play a crucial role in supporting the effective governance of Greenwich and Bexley Credit Union. This position involves organising board meetings, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of company records. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Schedule, prepare agendas for, and coordinate board meetings and support the annual general meeting (AGM).
  2. Record accurate minutes of meetings and distribute them to board members in a timely manner.
  3. Maintain and update records of board attendance, activities, decisions, and policies.
  4. Serve as the custodian of the credit union’s governance documents, such as bylaws, terms of reference and board policies.
  5. Facilitate communication between board members and management as required.
  6. Assist in the preparation and distribution of reports and other documentation required for board meetings.
  7. Provide support for board member orientation and ongoing education.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have:

  • Trainee applicants welcome - full coaching and support will be provided.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

A bonus to have:

  • Familiarity with governance and regulatory compliance issues.
  • An understanding of financial products and reporting.
  • Previous experience in a similar environment / role is welcome, but not mandatory.
