The Friends of the Connection are a country-wide network of people who are committed to supporting the work of The Connection at St Martin’s
We organise fundraising concerts in central London, and the annual Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride, a 200-mile 4-day sponsored ride from Lincoln to London. We are always open to ideas for other events and activities that could attract new Friends, and help us do more to tackle homelessness.

Main duties:

  • To set an annual calendar for meetings of the Executive Committee, including the Annual General Meeting.
  • To arrange and prepare meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, of the Executive Committee, including where necessary booking rooms or other facilities such as video-conferencing.
  • To maintain and prepare the agenda for future meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, in consultation with the Chair and other members of the Committee as necessary;
  • To circulate the agenda and all papers for Committee meetings in good time to enable members of the Committee and others invited to prepare properly.
  • To take full and appropriate minutes of all Committee meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, and to agree these with the Chair and to circulate them to other Committee members once agreed. To amend them in the light of any agreed comments after discussion at Committee meetings.
  • To ensure that agreed minutes are signed by the Chair and filed for record and consultation.
  • To keep appropriate records of all Secretarial matters.
  • To organise the Annual General Meeting, ensuring that notice is given and papers made available to members as required by the Constitution.
  • To maintain accurate records of the trustees on the Friends’ entry on the Charity Commission website, and that Trustees are elected/ re-elected according to the Friends’ constitution.
  • Ensuring that arrangements are in place to recruit and induct any new Committee members/Trustees in line with the requirements of the constitution.
  • To maintain a sufficient knowledge of the Charity Commission’s regulatory requirements as they relate to the Friends and to advise the Chair and the Committee as necessary.
  • To write the Annual Return required by the Charity Commission and to file the Annual Trustees’ Report and Accounts of the Friends on the Friends’ entry on the Charity Commission website by the relevant deadline each year.
  • responsible for ensuring that the Charity acts in line with the governing document and complies with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements which the charity is subject to.
  • To take other action as required by the Charity Commission.
  • To maintain active dialogue with the Chair, Charity Administrator and Trustees.
  • To be responsible for the Friends’ data protection arrangements, including producing and updating policies and other documents, and generally advising the Chair and the Committee on these matters.

Skills/Abilities

  • Organised and methodical.
  • Ability to take accurate minutes
  • Ability to work as part of a trustee team and be committed to the Friends’ values.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of charity law helpful.
