Head of Governance

Full-time, 35 hours per week
Permanent contract
Based in our London office when restrictions lift with homeworking available (subject to meeting homeworking assessment requirements).

The CSP is the professional, educational and trade union body for the 60,000 Chartered Physiotherapists, support workers and students in the UK; and one of the largest representative bodies in healthcare. We are proud to have been awarded the 2021 Best Companies One to Watch accreditation.

We currently have a great opportunity for an exceptional Head of Governance with a proven track record of leading on corporate governance, to manage this at the CSP both in its role as a Trade Union and as a Professional Body. This is a truly diverse and interesting role, handling the broad range of governance issues and providing sound advice at all levels, ensuring that the Council, Committees and staff engage with the processes and guidance.

This is a really exciting time for the CSP, as we have recently published our draft equity, diversity and belonging strategy, which we view as our most important work to transform the organisation and profession in line with our ambitions. The Head of Governance would take the lead on developing the equity, diversity and belonging work, ensuring that it progresses and working closely with our members and staff. This is also an important moment for continued improvement to all Data Protection processes, alongside leading on live issues.

You would be working as part of the Leadership Group and therefore need to be confident and comfortable advising at this level, as well as constructively challenging processes to transform CSP’s culture. This will be alongside the drive to ensure that the CSP complies with its governing documents and ensuring these reflect best practice. You will also have the initiative to ensure governance standards continue to improve, the ability to identify emerging risks and be proactive in implementing solutions to mitigate against these.

This is a real opportunity to have an impact on the organisation, which will require the ability to build strong working relationships of mutual respect internally, as well as with external stakeholders. Your experience in leading corporate governance in a similar organisation will be valuable for engaging others with this, as well as motivating and a small team of governance professionals.

Our Values

At the CSP our goal is to create a culture which is characterised by innovation, respect, encouragement, passion and teamwork.  We all strive for continuous improvement and to be the best at everything we do.  We aspire to work in a way that embodies our values of learning, courage, inclusive and integrity.  Our shared values are part of our organisational DNA and reflect the expectations we have of ourselves and others. They guide what we do and how we do it to have the greatest impact for our members.  Please click here for further information.
