ICSA opens Tanzanian branch

London, 1 April 2015 – ICSA, the chartered membership and qualifying body for professionals working in governance, risk and compliance, including company secretaries, has opened a branch in Tanzania.

Farzana Karimjee, Head of Advisory at FB Attorneys, who is convening the branch says: “Tanzania is one of the fastest growing economies in East Africa and will continue to prosper and grow due to political stability and prospects in the Oil and Gas sector. The establishment of the Tanzanian branch of ICSA is a great step as it will allow us to train legal and other professionals engaged in company secretarial work as chartered secretaries. This will help the development of good governance which is key to the sustainability of Tanzania’s economic growth. I am delighted to be a part of this endeavour.”

The Managing Partner of FB Attorneys Fayaz Bhojani has pledged his full support in helping to establish the branch. Mrs Karimjee is also being helped in her efforts by Mr Saidi Yakubu of Yakubu Chambers, a key supporter of ICSA and joint convenor of the Tanzanian branch.

“ICSA seeks to encourage the adoption globally of good governance practices as ultimately good governance helps economies grow. Chartered secretaries play a vital role in this by ensuring that companies and other organisations implement good governance practices, act responsibly and operate with integrity. The launch of a branch in Tanzania highlights our belief that East Africa has great potential as a region that can achieve long-term, sustainable growth. It is a welcome addition to our other branches in the region, our Kenyan, Ugandan and Zambian branches, and we welcome it to the ICSA family,” says Simon Osborne, Chief Executive of ICSA.
