Certificate in Corporate Governance

Summary

This broad, introductory course covers the principles of good governance across many different sectors. You will develop a strong core knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and codes, and be better placed to navigate governance structures, help mitigate potential issues, and support your organisation. Students who successfully complete the Level 4 Certificate in Corporate Governance qualification and have at least two years’ work experience are eligible to become Affiliated members and continue to benefit from the knowledge and support of our governance and compliance community.

Entry

This programme is open entry, with no prior qualifications required, and suitable if you are living or working in the UK or internationally.

This is suitable if you work in the private or other sectors in governance support roles and have received no formal or structured training. It is suitable if you want to refresh your knowledge of corporate governance codes and practices. It is also appropriate if you are an international student looking to improve your knowledge and understanding of good governance practices. 

Particular job roles may include:

• Secretarial assistant
• Assistant Company secretary
• Executive assistant
• Governance officer

Course content

This qualification will help you better understand:

• The role of the board and company secretary 
• How to support and engage with the board on legal, financial and regulatory issues
• Frameworks and principles of governance and how to apply the relevant codes
• Knowledge on key players in governance and decision making complexities
• The best ways to manage risk

There are four modules covering the following topic areas:

• General principles of corporate governance
• The board, shareholders and corporate reporting
• Board procedure and governance administration
• Risk governance

Study

The 24/25 session for this course will start on 21st October 2024 and run to up May 2025..

The recommended recommendeds study time for the Level 4 Certificate in Corporate Governance is 200 hours, which includes the online content, webinars, practice tasks and assessment exercises.

This course is based around a self-study model and therefore requires a significant commitment to study, on top of the provided webinar sessions. You will be expected to study approximately eight hours per week to prepare for your assessment.

The course schedule will deliver up to 12 live webinars with one of our experienced tutors using Microsoft Teams.

As a student you will have access to a community of practice with like-minded professionals and resources on our learning management system (LMS).

Assesment

Successful completion of this course will be dependent on you passing the assessment. Your overall grade at the end of the course is made up of marks from two components: 

• A written assignment worth 60% of your overall result 
• A multiple-choice assessment worth 40% of your overall result 

To pass the course and achieve the qualification, you will have to achieve a pass for the written assignment and a pass for the multiple-choice question exam.
