This programme provides an introduction to the sports governance environment. It focuses on equipping those who work in the sports sector with the knowledge and key skills necessary to develop good governance practices within their organisation. You will be able to help your organisation focus on its main aims while applying the key principles of the UK's Code for Sports Governance. Students who choose to take the examination and successfully complete the Level 4 Certificate in Sports Governance are eligible to become Affiliated members and continue to benefit from the knowledge and support of our governance and compliance community.
If you work in a sports organisation of any size, from a national governing body to a smaller local organisation, with governance responsibility. This is an accessible and practical qualification for those who work at all levels of the sector.

The course is a blended learning programme with e-learning content and other online resources, supported by a schedule of live webinars with a tutor.

The course content is delivered through an online learning platform, where you can also ask questions and discuss topics with other students and the tutor. The webinars are live events delivered through the Adobe Connect webinar platform, but they are recorded so that you can revise the content or catch up if you can’t attend.
Two practice tasks are set during the course, which are intended to support revision around certain topics and will help you to prepare for the exam if you choose to take it. These do not count towards the final assessment but will provide feedback on your progress.
As the practice tasks and webinars are scheduled to take place at fixed times, if you want to join the course after the October start date, we suggest that you discuss this with us before you register.

The recommended study time for the Level 4 Certificate in Sports Governance is 200 hours, which includes the online content, webinars, practice tasks and exam time.
This course is based around a self-study model and therefore requires a significant commitment to study, on top of the provided webinar sessions.
You can opt to take the course with the examination or with course-only. If you opt for the examination, assessment of the course is via one exam (3 hours with 15 minutes reading time), and can be taken in June each year.
The exam paper contains a mixture of short- and extended-answer questions with a pass mark of 50%. When registering for the course, you must pick the June exam session following the course.
