The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGIUKI) has announced its decision to sign an accreditation agreement with Henley Business School (Henley).
CGIUKI will accredit Henley’s MA Board Practice and Directorship Qualification, and award Affiliated Member status to students who successfully complete the programme.
Designed for experienced practising board members (Chair, C-suite, SID, NED) from across the private, public and third sectors, the MA Board Practice and Directorship is a post-experience, practice-focused, part-time programme focusing on governance, strategic oversight, board dynamics and how to lead a high performing board.
The programme is delivered by expert academic faculty with extensive international experience, with insights from highly experienced board practitioners.
Neil Newman, CGI’s Commercial Director, commented: “The Henley MA in Board Practice and Directorship is one of the UK’s most prestigious post-experience programmes. It is a practical course which recruits high-potential corporate talent and trains them how to tackle the risks and opportunities which face the modern board. The programme has been carefully designed to handle today’s governance challenges, and we are delighted to partner with Henley and accredit this programme.”
Professor Andrew Kakabadse, Professor of Governance and Leadership at Henley, said: “The Governance of our institutions has never been so important. We need quality Boards and outstanding Board Directors. The MABPD is a unique professional development degree programme preparing board directors to provide the highest level of oversight and care of our interests thus enabling sustainable growth as a society.”
Three stages for the busy Director
The PGCert, PGDip and MA BPD is offered in three progressive stages and draws on Henley’s extensive board and top-team governance research that extends to more than 20,000 boards across 40 countries.
With this Masters level qualification, the CGI is adding a unique offering to its portfolio of director and board-level training and skills programmes – for understanding board member roles, delineating board with management and owners, effective board engagement and dynamics, and the latest in governance best practices for ensuring rigour in director stewardship as high order contributions and evidence informed decision-making and outcomes.
Henley will also be offering short attendance only, non-qualification programmes in partnership with CGI, designed to address key emerging gaps as latest developments in directorship expertise such as in digital; finance; sustainable finance; fintech and board dynamics.
Dr Nadeem Khan, Programme Director of MA BPD at Henley, commented: “We have an established relationship with CGI and are delighted to be working closely together towards enhancing board-level and corporate governance skills and capabilities. It’s an exciting opportunity to introduce the Henley MA BPD offering to CGI’s UK and global membership community.”
