The board evaluation process - visual aids

Good governance is an essential factor in running a successful charity. It builds upon strong foundations of legal and regulatory compliance by adding robust accountability, transparency and ethical behaviour. Organisations that take governance seriously will also invest in supporting the continuous improvement of their board in order to lead the charity in delivering its charitable objects and public benefit in an effective and sustainable manner. One aspect of a board committed to learning and improving will be the undertaking of a regular board evaluation.

A board evaluation is a process whereby the board is assessed to ascertain its capacity to deliver the long-term objectives of the charity.This guidance note visually outlines some of the factors that a board will want to consider when discussing board evaluations.
