Academy governance

Meetings of a charitable company limited by guarantee

Academy trusts, as charitable companies limited by guarantee (CLG), are subject to a range of law and regulation that covers education, company and charitable organisations. With a long history of the CLG structure being used for non-profit making activities, it is still relatively new and can be subject to misunderstanding in the academy sector.

This guidance is aimed at those closely involved in academy schools and others with a general interest in them. It specifically focuses on the issues of the meetings, including the annual general meeting (AGM) and the formal structure that governs them.
