Our qualifications are flexible, so you can study at a pace that suits you.
Examinations take place in June and November each year. To help you prepare, each module has a study text, and you’ll find further support and resources on our website.
You can purchase a Study Support package per module which gives you access to all the learning materials you need online via our Learning Management System (LMS). The package also gives you exclusive use of an online forum where you can discuss what you’re learning with other students and ask questions of your subject matter experts. You can purchase this on the website.
You can also choose to take tuition with one of our approved tuition providers if you would like additional guidance.
What to do after registering as a student
Now that you’re registered, your next step is to choose the module you want to study. When you feel ready, you can register for the exam for that module.
Select the tabs below to see the steps you’ll need to follow.

If you’re beginning the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme, the modules are arranged in two parts. If you need to take Part One modules, you must complete all of these before moving on to Part Two. You can choose which Part One module to sit first. We suggest starting with a subject you already feel confident about, perhaps something linked to your work experience or a topic you’ve studied before.
If you are not sure where to start, we recommend studying and taking the exams in the following order:
1. Company Law
2. Company Compliance and Administration
3. Interpreting Financial and Accounting Information
4. Corporate Governance
If you’re studying through the Fast Track route, you only need to complete two modules. You must take Corporate Governance first, followed by the remaining module.
You can take up to two exams in each session, but it’s important to think carefully about how much study time you can realistically commit to. We recommend allowing around 200 hours of preparation for each exam. For many students, particularly those in full‑time work, this means planning ahead to balance study with other responsibilities.
We suggest choosing one subject for your first exam session. If you later decide not to take an exam you have already booked, please contact us to postpone your exam date. A postponement fee will apply.
You can learn more about how to prepare for your studies by taking our Study Skills course available in our study support package.
Each module has a main study text that covers all the core knowledge you’ll need for your exam. You will need to make sure you have the correct edition for your module.
As you are studying on the Qualifying Programme, you will need to buy your study text separately. You can get your study text in two ways:
- Purchase our study support package which includes the study text available to download on our Learning Management System.
- Purchase your study text on our bookshop.
If you need any help with getting your study text, please get in touch with our Contact Centre.
On the Qualifying Programme, you can watch a range of support webinars that cover topics such as:
preparing for your exam
key areas within each module
how to approach and answer exam questions
You can access all webinars through the study support pages on MyCG or via the LMS if you have purchased the relevant study support package.
We’ll be running examiner‑led webinars in the lead‑up to each exam session. You’ll receive an early notification with all the details, and you’ll be able to book your place easily. Each webinar will focus on exam preparation, including helpful techniques and approaches to boost your confidence.
Each exam session has a closing date for new bookings, as well as for making any changes to an existing booking. These deadlines are usually at the end of April for the June exams and at the end of September for the November exams. However, it is your responsibility to check the relevant deadlines for your exam session.
Make sure you register before the closing date. If you have already booked an exam and need to make a change, you will need to do this before the deadline too. You can find all key dates on the Student Information page of the CGI website.
Once you have booked your exam, we will contact you around six weeks before the exam date with details of including dates, times, how to access the exam and your next steps.
Alongside the rules and regulations, it’s important to keep your student membership active throughout your studies. You can find information about the different types of student membership and the fees on the Become a member ‒ student membership page of the CGI website.
Qualifying Programme
You will need to plan your own study schedule, and many students find it helpful to work with one of our tuition partners.
To help you plan your time, take a look at our study skills handbook which provides tips and tricks on how to get the best out of your studies.
From our experience, students who choose this method are more successful in their studies.
You can select a tuition partner that offers distance learning to students anywhere in the world, or face‑to‑face classes where available. Each partner provides different study packages. For example, some offer revision days, while others run weekly sessions. This means you can choose the approach and price that works best for you.
You can find the list of tuition partners on the Registered tuition providers page of the website.
Why study with a tuition partner?
Below are some of the reasons students benefit from tuition support:
-
Stay focused and motivated
-
Regular check‑ins with a tutor and a clear study schedule help you keep on track.
-
Build deeper understanding
-
Tutors help you apply the syllabus to real‑life situations, giving you a fuller grasp of each subject.
-
Prepare effectively for your exam
-
You’ll have access to mock exams, practice papers and marked assessments, so you can understand your progress and receive valuable feedback.
