Corporate governance qualifications
Governance is a system that provides a framework for managing organisations. It identifies who can make decisions, who has the authority to act on behalf of the organisation and who is accountable for how an organisation and its people behave and perform.
Governance enables the management team and the board to run organisations legally, ethically, sustainably, and successfully, for the benefit of stakeholders, including shareholders, staff, clients and customers, and for the good of wider society.
Certificate in Corporate Governance
This broad, introductory course covers the principles of good governance across many different sectors. You will develop a strong core knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and codes, and be better placed to navigate governance structures, help mitigate potential issues, and support your organisation.
Who is this course for?
This programme is open entry, with no prior qualifications required, and suitable if you are living or working in the UK or internationally.
This is suitable if you work in the private or other sectors in governance support roles and have received no formal or structured training. It is suitable if you want to refresh your knowledge of corporate governance codes and practices. It is also appropriate if you are an international student looking to improve your knowledge and understanding of good governance practices.
Certificate in Employee Share Plans
This is the only professional employee share plan qualification available in the UK. Participants can expect the course to be equivalent to the first year of a three-year undergraduate honours degree programme in the United Kingdom.
Who is this course for?
This qualification is for those working in company secretarial or administration roles, human resources professionals and consultants. You do not need any formal qualifications to enter the course.
Most participants are employed in a relevant occupation and have at least GCSEs or their equivalent.

Certificate in Company Secretarial Law and Practice (Ireland)
The Companies Act 2014 required company directors of all companies appoint a 'suitably qualified' individual to the company secretary position. The Chartered Governance Institute has partnered with the Law Society of Ireland to deliver and jointly award a Certificate in Company Secretarial Law and Practice.
Who is this course for?
This certificate is for company secretaries and their teams, as well as suitably qualified corporate governance and compliance professionals looking to develop their legal knowledge and practical skills in this area.
The course will also attract solicitors who offer company secretarial services or who advise clients in this area. In addition, it will appeal to in-house lawyers and to those looking to develop their company secretarial skills and knowledge with a view to developing new opportunities and offering new services to existing clients.
