A survey of FTSE 350 companies out today finds economic pessimism gradually lifting as confidence in global and UK economic conditions starts to return despite continued concern about the impact of Brexit and an increase in the number of respondents citing Brexit as a principal risk. The latest FT-ICSA Boardroom Bellwether survey by ICSA: The Governance Institute in association with the Financial Times also reveals that concerns about cyber risk and boardroom diversity remain a worry for UK PLC. ICSA: The Governance Institute has today issued guidance on how to build a board assurance framework (BAF), a single document that pulls together all relevant data pertaining to a charity’s strategic goals, and the risks it faces. The BAF provides a framework by which the board can be assured of the veracity of data presented to it, presenting trustees with triangulated information to support management assertions that the charity is well run. ICSA: The Governance Institute has today released guidance to help charities recruit trustees. The guidance was written to provide those responsible for or involved in the governance of a charity with detailed information on how to recruit and appoint charity trustees following the revelation in May this year by Getting On Board – a charity supporting board level recruitment – that 74% of respondents to a survey into trustee recruitment found recruiting trustees difficult. Launched by Louise Thomson, Head of Policy (Not for Profit) at ICSA last night, the report identifies behaviours and practices that may indicate a poor organisational culture that does not match the stated values of the charity. The guidance, which was launched last night at ICSA’s ‘Compliance or Bust? Cracking the Sports Governance Code’ event, can be adapted for organisations of any size to reflect good practice for each individual organisation’s needs, and focuses on the responsibilities of directors, trustees and committee members. ICSA: The Governance Institute recognised the achievements of some exceptional students at its Northern Ireland Annual Branch Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday 3 February, with star student Claire de Wet walking off with four out of five of the top prizes. An employee of Maples Fund Services, Claire was judged to be the best student of ICSA’s Chartered Secretaries Qualifying Scheme, offered by Ulster University. She also took home top prizes for corporate governance and strategy and was jointly awarded the Newton Compton Memorial Cup by the local Northern Ireland Branch, in recognition of being the joint top student in Company Law and Company Secretaryship.
