Poll reveals mixed feelings about greater alignment of public and private companies

London, 3 November 2016 – A poll out today from ICSA: The Governance Institute and recruitment specialist The Core Partnership, which picks up on one of the questions posed by the BEIS Committee’s inquiry into corporate governance, finds that a very slim majority (39%) of those polled feel that there is no need for greater alignment between the rules governing public and private companies. Some 32% were in favour of greater alignment and 28% were not sure. Of those in favour of greater alignment, the main reason came down to size. Read more

Economic confidence is improving, but uncertainty around the UK’s continued membership of the EU and a reduction of red tape are strong concerns in the latest FT-ICSA Boardroom Bellwether published today. The twice-yearly survey which shows how boards are responding to the challenges of the economy and the wider business and social climate also found that a third of boards do not now expect to meet the target of 25% women on boards by the end of 2015 – the most pessimistic result since December 2012. Speaking at the conference, Cecile Gillard, Charities Legal Manager at Burton Sweet explained that the updated version of its Essential Trustee guidance, which is due to be published in the early summer, uses firmer language than before and she urged charity secretaries to read the small print carefully as the tone and approach reinforces that the Commission is a Regulator with a capital ‘R’.
